Prayer, pilgrimage and practical charity for the Holy Land
Present on every continent through its Lieutenancies, the Order of the Holy Sepulchre promotes initiatives and meetings in support of the Christian presence in the land where our faith was born.
What we do
Every Knight and Dame is asked to live the Order’s mission in a concrete way — in the chapel, in the Holy Land and in their own diocese.
Regular Masses, retreats and days of recollection anchor everything else the Lieutenancy does.
Members’ gifts, managed under rigorous accounting rules, fund the parishes and schools of Jordan, Palestine, Israel and Cyprus.
Members travel to the Holy Land, bringing moral support to Christians who strive to be protagonists of the “culture of encounter” in the service of peace.
Through the Reunion of Aid Agencies for the Oriental Churches the Order also reaches Egypt, Lebanon and other lands of Scripture.
Talks, the Bulletin and pages like Faith in Action deepen members’ knowledge of the Church and of the Holy Land.
Knights and Dames respond to the needs of the poor at home — welcoming refugees and migrants — following the directives of the Grand Master.
How the aid reaches the Holy Land
Each Lieutenancy manages the donations of its members according to rigorous accounting rules, in order to present an annual budget to the Grand Magisterium in Rome — the central organ of the Order’s government, which coordinates the entire aid sent to the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem.
The Patriarchate’s institutions, in particular its parishes and schools, are always the main focus of this material solidarity, which also contributes to specific restoration or construction projects authorized by the Grand Magisterium. The global amount of aid sent to the Holy Land is close to ten million euros each year.
